Jeff's Version

So one Friday afternoon, I call my friend Ray to see if he wants to grab a beer that evening.

"Actually, I'll be at Belltown Billiards. One of my co-workers is leaving the company and we're having a going away party for him. You should stop by. We'll be there at 7:00," he tells me.

I show up a few minutes before 7:00 and lo and behold not a soul that I recognize is there.

"No big deal, these guys often run late," I think to myself as I grab a seat at the bar and proceed to order a beer and some dinner.

7:30. Still no sign of anyone. I figure I might as well order one more beer.

7:50. I'm on my last couple sips of beer figuring that the party must have been cancelled and that I'll probably just call it a night. All of a sudden, in through the front door comes Ray, totally out of breath.

"Oh man, I'm really sorry. I'm glad you're still here. I told you Belltown Billiards, but everybody's actually up the street at Belltown Pub!"

That explains it! I pay my tab and head up the street where the future Mrs. Rosenfeld is hanging out with the other 20 or so people who've been living it up while I've been wondering why no one bothered to show up for the party.

Holly and I immediately hit it off, talking about anything and everything the rest of the night. The next day, I distinctly remember thinking to myself that this was the beginning of something really special but I was afraid that if I mentioned this to many of my friends, I would jinx myself.

Well I guess it's safe to say that 2 years 6 months and 12 days later when Holly said she would marry me, I hadn't jinxed myself!

The rest as they say is history...

Holly's Version

I had spent that Friday on a hike with my brother, Bill. We had a fantastic trek up Cougar Mountain and as the sun started to set we realized we needed to find our way off the trail and back to the car. Let’s just say it involved some running down trails (in somewhat of a panic) trying to get back to the car before the sun set and darkness came. Luckily, we made it.

On the drive back to his house, he invited me to spend the night and head off the next morning to Victoria, B.C. with him and his family. Spending time with them is an offer I rarely refuse, but for some reason I really felt like I needed to see my friends at Belltown Pub that night.

After racing home to wash the mud off, I pulled myself together and made it to the pub. It was really wonderful to see everyone, and I was glad I was there.

I remember standing out in front of the pub when Ray and Kristen walked up. We chatted for a few minutes and then Ray ran off. I asked Kristen where he was going and she said to get a friend. I thought nothing of it and Kristen and I went into the bar.

Little did I know at the time that the person I would end up talking with all evening, "Ray’s friend", would later become "Holly’s husband"!
